For this spring semester, Goodwill NYNJ and The New School's Parsons School of Fashion collaborated to provide six Bachelor of Fine Arts senior students the opportunity to work directly with our production department to get material to upcycled for use in their thesis collection. The semester-long project culminated with the students showing their designs at the Parsons Fest the week before graduating in May.
Goodwill NYNJ Staff Mentors CUNY Team to Win $10k 2nd Prize!
A team of students from the Grove School of Engineering at City University of NY (CUNY) won second place and a $10,000 prize in CREATE (Cultivating Resources for Employment with Assistive Technology), a state-wide competition that NY Industries for the Disabled (NYSID) sponsors annually. Goodwill NYNJ staff served as expert consultants for the team of students about the challenges that individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) face while seeking employment.
Goodwill NYNJ Recognizes 100 Individuals with Autism
Nearly 250 guests joined us for our 5th Annual Autism Awareness event on Thursday, April 19. We presented Employment Awards to 40 program participants with autism who have secure and retain jobs and to 59 Day Habilitation program participants who have achieved their communication & independence goals. Also, we recognized six employers, who have hired some of our program participants, including CVS and JC Penney.
Sharmaine Williams is inducted in Hall of Fame
In honor of March, Women's History Month, Strong Nonprofits for a Better New York inducted Sharmaine Williams, Goodwill NYNJ Senior Vice President of Workforce Development, in their Women in Human Services Hall of Fame. Sharmaine was recognized for her work and contributions to her community during an event at the NY state capitol on March 13 along with other notable women who work in the sector across the state.
