Goodwill NYNJ is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We exist to uplift the local communities of New York and Northern New Jersey by using funds generated in our retail stores and donation centers to support employment opportunities for people with disabilities or other obstacles to employment
When Daris Glisson, a 45-year-old African-American Clason Point resident, joined our Jobs Plus program in 2016, he was unemployed and had no clear career direction. At Jobs Plus, Daris obtained his OSHA Certification, received job readiness training, interview and resume preparation assistance, and job and career advancement referrals.
Timothy Santiago, a 29-year-old Bronx resident with Autism Syndrome Disorder (ASD), joined our Advance program because he wanted to get a job as a Math tutor and work near home. Math was his favorite subject in school, was fascinated with problem solving and works on math problems everyday even today, and had worked as assistant to his Math college professor. Timothy has a High School Diploma, but he did not graduate from college.
As part of the nonprofit sector, Goodwill NYNJ has played and will continue to play an integral role in the economic recovery of our region. The Goodwill philosophy of retail thrift stores funding human services for the community is as important today than 106 years ago when Goodwill NYNJ was founded in Brooklyn.
