The Two Coves Community and Business Advisory Council is made up of community and business leaders in the Two Coves section of Astoria, Queens. The group has cooperated with Goodwill to form a junior baseball league every summer with more than 100 players from ages 6-14 and to refurbish the local Whitey Ford baseball field.
Additionally, they have established a drug-free zone; worked with local police to step up responsiveness to crime; dealt with area issues such as traffic lights and the condition of sidewalks; undertook efforts to bring essential services to the neighborhood, and organized an annual “Community Unity Day” festival. In a recent campaign, Goodwill and the Council worked with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, Green Thumb, and elected officials and volunteers to turn the Astoria Triangle on 12th Street and Astoria Boulevard from a debris-strewn lot into a public park and community garden with special features for persons with disabilities.
