On Thursday, May 16, Andrew Ellzey, a graduate of Goodwill VIP program, and Martha Jackson, Goodwill’s Director New Initiatives & Business Partnerships, joined dozens of program participants and staff from Goodwills across the country to advocate on behalf of the thousands of individuals with disabilities seeking employment. Mr. Ellzey is legally blind and received training and employment support services at Goodwill NY-NJ.
A 360-Degree on Jobs: Policy, Economy, Training, and Employment will examine the systemic unemployment in the metropolitan region. The forum will include a keynote address by Department of Labor Assistant Secretary Jane Oates.
On Tuesday, May 14, more than 20 non-profit organizations including Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey, Inc. hosted a Post Sandy Job Fair to help people find work after the destruction-packed hurricane. Anyone interested in finding a job was welcomed to attend the free event. More than 250 companies from a wide range of sectors participated, each one having committed to hire at least one candidate. Experts provided workshops and assistance with interviewing skills and resume preparation the day of the event.

Williams to hold “Ready, Set, Thrift!”, a thrift fashion challenge event at Goodwill’s Chelsea boutique on Thursday, December 6.
Goodwill’s partners, board members, and friends took to the links at Pine Hollow Country Club in East Norwich, New York in October for an afternoon of fun and fundraising. More than 90 golfers participated in the third annual Golf Classic, which included brunch, a putting contest, cocktail reception, buffet and awards presentation. The 2012 edition raised over $140,000 to help fund Goodwill’s vital training and job placement services for all people with barriers to employment, and Goodwill’s life-changing youth programs.
More than 200 people participated in the first Goodwill Power of Work Walk Run on Saturday, October 1 at the Flushing Meadow Corona Park in Queens. The event, which drew Goodwill program participants and staff, and their friends and family, began at 9 a.m.
