Design on a Dime/Chelsea's Metropolitan Pavilion April 25-28

Evette Rios, Goodwill Industries® International's spokesperson, designed a room vignette for Housing Works' benefit, "Design on A dime." Then annual event took place at Chelsea's Metropolitan Pavilion April 25-28.

Ms. Rios, one of the event five co-chairs, selected furniture and other product from Goodwill stores located in the New York City metropolitan region. All sales proceeds fund housing services for individuals with HIV/AIDS.

New York State legislators propose a reduction of 6% from the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) Medicaid funding.

 

This cut, if not avoided, will affect the quality of life of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, individuals who are most in need of important supports and services by agencies that employ over 75,000 direct support professionals throughout the state.

Goodwill’s DonationXpress offers a fast, easy and environmentally responsible way to get rid of the clothing, textiles, electronics, and other household items families no longer need, and get a tax receipt for their donation.

 

Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey, Inc. will officially open its second Westchester County DonationXpress, an attended donation center, at 742 Bedford Road, Bedford Hills, NY 10507, with a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, May 10 at 10 a.m. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week. More than 20 non-profit organizations including Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey, Inc. are hosting a Post Sandy Job Fair as part of a noble effort to help people find work after the destruction-packed hurricane. 

 

The “Post Sandy Job Fair” will be held on Tuesday, May 14, from 9 – 3 p.m. at Resorts World, 110-00 Rockaway Blvd., Jamaica NY 11420.

Long Island Goodwill Store in Patchogue Closes

The Goodwill store located in Patchogue, NY at 479 East Main Street, 11772 in Long Island’s Suffolk County, permanently closed on Thursday, March 21. Goodwill removed all collection bins from the premises the last week of March.

Effective immediately, recently inaugurated Goodwill program Beyond Jobs will relocate to 92-31 Union Hall Street 4th Floor in Jamaica, Queens 11433.

 

Beyond Jobs program supports New York City single mothers 18 years or older in navigating their individual career path. The Goodwill program provides a holistic integration of career services with family and financial strengthening services.
