PARAMUS, NJ: Paramus area residents who love shopping for great styles and one-of-a-kind treasures at bargain prices will soon be flocking to the new Goodwill store, at 809 North State Route 17 (between the Ridgewood and Linwood Avenue Exits) in Paramus. Telephone: (201) 444-0596.
The store opens Thursday, July 15 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Normal store hours will be 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., Monday-Saturday. On the first three days of business, lucky customers will be able participate in drawings for valuable Goodwill gift certificates.
Goodwill, one of the country’s best nonprofit organizations, sells high-quality, gently used clothing and household goods at low prices. Income from every store supports Goodwill’s programs for people with disabilities and other special needs, helping to overcome barriers to employment.
Another benefit of the new store is that it allows people to clean out their closets and donate their gently used clothing to a charity that will recycle the goods. Donations are tax deductible, and the Paramus store has already started taking in donations Monday - Saturday between 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Goodwill accepts clothing, shoes, accessories, jewelry, household goods, linens, computers, books, and small appliances or electronics in good working order.
Goodwill’s brand new 14,000-square-foot store will employ as many as 18 people. It is the second Goodwill in Bergen County; the other is in Bergenfield. The Paramus location will also serve residents from nearby Rockland County.
Goodwill retail stores provide low cost merchandise to the public and serve as training grounds for persons with disabilities. Goodwill has been active in New Jersey since 1919, helping to keep items out of landfills and providing donors with the opportunity to turn the simple act of cleaning out a closet into environmental stewardship.
Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey serves about 164,000 people each year. In New Jersey, the agency has a long history of working with people with disabilities and providing employment opportunities for people out of work or on public assistance.
